Pharmaceutical Negligence in Arizona

Estimates from the Food and Drug Administration indicate that a minimum of roughly 1.3 million people in the United States are victims of pharmaceutical negligence each year. Medication errors are listed as one of the five most common medical malpractice errors committed in the United States, and drug recall falls under the term medication error.

Pharmaceutical negligence occurs when an individual taking medication becomes sick, or dies as a result of taking that medicine. Pharmaceutical negligence can occur under a variety of circumstances and for various reasons, including because a drug is unsafe for use, the wrong medication is dispensed by the pharmacy, the wrong drug is prescribed, or there are long term side effects about which the patient was not warned. Many drug recalls are the result of negative side effects that causes the drug to be unsafe.

Importantly pharmaceutical negligence can occur with prescription drugs and over the counter drugs. Over the counter drugs can be dangerous when there are unknown side effects of which the taker was not warned or aware, or because the drug is unsafe for use. In some instances the FDA even recalls some of these drugs. For a list of drugs currently under recall by the FDA, visit their website
