Karissa is a passionate and trustworthy attorney, and has helped numerous individuals who were injured receive the compensation they deserve. Having a lifelong interest in law, Karissa completed a B.A. at the University of Pittsburgh in Political Science and English Writing in 2014, and moved on to obtain a Juris Doctor degree at Pittsburgh’s Duquesne University School of Law in 2018. While in a civil rights clinic at Duquesne University, she helped to organize and participate in a large scale expungement and pardon workshop for individuals in Allegheny County. Karissa discovered while in law school that personal injury law was her passion, and started working for a Pittsburgh-area civil law firm during her first year of study. Having lived with her mother in Pennsylvania from childhood, Karissa was inspired to settle down in Pittsburgh to pursue her dream career as an attorney. Karissa joins Thompson Law Firm as a fresh influence, with a drive to represent clients with compassion and integrity.
Karissa has firsthand experience with the devastation involved in personal injury. While in law school, a close family member was in a very serious car accident where a driver ran a red light in a company vehicle and struck her loved one’s car. Thankfully, her family member recovered, however they were left with a permanent brain injury and other significant physical issues. This terrible accident further influenced Karissa to support her clients’ needs in an empathetic way.
Beyond having direct experience with the trauma related to personal injury, Karissa also has had extensive training in the field. Karissa studied European Public Law and European Intellectual Property Law at University of Cologne in Germany as part of her law studies. She travelled to Luxembourg, where she was able to observe the European Court of Justice in session. Additionally, Karissa travelled to the European Commission of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France and met with officials there to learn about the process and procedures for reviewing human rights complaints. Karissa has been to 12 different countries and travels abroad at least once a year. She prioritizes experiencing the local culture, cuisine, and history wherever she goes so that her practice can be as diverse and multifaceted as her exposure is.
Karissa has a deep understanding of how her practice can benefit the people of Pennsylvania. She has completed several clinics and internships around civil rights and meaningful research with, practices in and around Pittsburgh. Volunteering with election protection is one way Karissa stays connected to her community.
Additionally, Karissa holds many forms of recognition from national organizations. For example, Karissa was awarded Nationally Ranked Top 10 Under 40 Lawyer in the Field of Personal Injury from the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys in 2020. She also received First Place National Moot Court Champion in 2017 from the George Washington School of Law.
